First of all congratulations for this usefull program.

My suggestion is to improve the environment a little, for example putting icons to the well-known files to be able to identify them more easily or having kind of a tree with folders and sub-folders like the windows browser.

Pardon for my poor English.

Glad you like the program.

The way the program works does not lend itself to displaying icons in the list. Sorry....

Also, I could show the data in a treelike view but that will probably not be for some time since I will probably have to re-write the program using a different technology.

First of all, thank you so much for your programming efforts.  This is such a simple utility that really has great value.  Keep up the great work!   :D

Now, I'd like to request a feature if I may...  MP3 ID3 tag support.  Some other catalog utilities have incorporated tag to description support, but what I'd really like to see is individual fields for media file properties and tag fields.

What do you think?   :)

Thanx. That was one of my objectives when i started...to  make the program easy to use and intuitive.

Now on to the MP3 stuff. Several things to cover...

1. First and foremost...you must understand that the main function of the program is to catalog inherent properties of ALL file types. Properties such as size, date, etc. It is a data file cataloger primarily and not a media file cataloger. Although, it will catalog media files, the current version will not save media information other than the standard information.

2. I have already successfully added MP3 ID3v1 info functionality into the program. The information will be saved in the file description field and the user will be able to customize what information is saved.

3. The new version will be shareware. Sorry but expenses (server costs, hardware, software, etc.) have increased beyond what I can handle. However, it will be a very small and affordable price.

Sorry to hear about your financial situation.  I'm sure that if you keep the price down to about $10-$15 (US), you'll be able to maintain a decent user base.  The more research I do, the more I see that this is the price range that most users, (statistical percentage of about 72%), are willing to pay for a useful shareware utility.

In any case, I hope your new venture works out well for you!  Happy Holidays!

Well, its not really a "financial situation" per se. It's just that the internet community didnt support the program like I had anticipated. Its been downloaded over 40,000 times and ive received maybe like 4 donations.

The software will be just as useful as it is today. Everything you have now will be freeware. However, some more advanced features will be part of the paid version, which I intend to name Ruby Plus. The MP3 ID3 stuff being part of that version.

Curious...where did you see the statistics you mention?

I think the two teir model should work well, as it has for other products.

As far as the statistics, it was a study I performed about a year ago by reading through several web BBSs which are dedicated to software which changed from freeware to shareware.  I also searched through groups.google.com and tabulated positive/negative responses to the same type of situation.  The ~72% came from this tabulation.  During the research, the most common response I saw in favor of the new model was that paying $10-$15 for a useful piece of software was quite acceptable.

This was a personal project to satisfy my own curiousity, not a class or work assignment.   ;)

Ill have to do a little research of my own and see what a good and fair price should be. Like I said though, it should be affordable.
